As summer is in full swing and San Diego is back to business, the Fairmont Grand Del Mar is launching a pop-up outdoor restaurant this weekend that will run through October and potentially beyond. Earlier this year, the luxury hotel opened the Fireside Lounge, an outdoor dining area that has proven to be so popular it has been transported outside to the property’s large lawn where the Significantly expanded space now spans 10 cabins, eight fire pit tables, and a 24-foot communal table.
Now called Del Mar Social Club, the hotel aims to make the experience accessible to locals and families by offering free parking and no booking fees for foyer tables or cabanas, which can be booked online and offer a full service, while walking. ins are accepted at the common self-service table. For starters, the casual restaurant will be open Thursday and Friday from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday from noon to 10 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m., but the hotel says it will likely extend hours and days of operation.
At the walk-in bar, drinks include a rotating list of frozen cocktails, customizable sparkling rose-based spritz cocktails and your choice of appetizer, as well as classics like a Bees Knees made with saffron and honey from the Grand Del Mar’s on-site beehives. Next door, the open, interactive kitchen is centered around a wood-burning oven and a menu that ranges from roasted speckled shrimp and whole Dungeness crab to Neapolitan pizzas and fresh oysters. There are also s’mores kits available to cook in personal homes.
In addition to lawn games, the Del Mar Social Club also has a collection of table games that can be delivered on request, including foosball and slingshot hockey. And the pop-up will host some kind of live entertainment every day of operation.
