COMPETITORS will travel back in time to find clues and solve puzzles in a new outdoor adventure game launched in Cumbria.
In association with English Heritage, Escape Games Company is launching the challenge in June at Shap Abbey and Penrith Castle.
Participants work together in small groups to solve puzzles and uncover clues inspired by the sites’ fascinating heritage.
There will be actors in full costume to help bring the games to life for the players.
Owner and Founder Ian Cox said: “We are so excited to be launching our games at these two incredible heritage sites in Cumbria. Our goal is to help bring these beautiful places to life with fun and energizing games based on the facts and inspired by the past.
As every game takes place away, there is also a focus on physical and mental well-being.
“After months of confinement and inordinate amount of time spent in front of screens, we wanted to offer activities that support people’s physical and mental health,” Cox said.
“Our problem-solving games will bring the feel-good factor and a lot of active fun and excitement to amazing historical locations.” The games should appeal to a wide audience, including families and friends of all ages, as well as school groups and work trips for team-building activities. ”
Last summer 95% of players said they would recommend the experience, taken at Berkhamsted Castle, the company had a successful showcase at an English heritage site in Hertfordshire.
The games in Cumbria and across the UK will be shown as part of the ‘Adventure Out! The Games brand, which focuses on escape-style outdoor themed games at similar drama venues across England.
Covid security will remain in place, with all outdoor activities and all clues and props cleaned and sanitized after each match.
Group sizes and the number of households allowed to mix will also be respected based on the latest Covid restrictions.
