In search of a outdoor game but tired of the usual tag or hide and seek? On a sunny winter day, running outside is a great activity.
The 225 Kid Outdoor Games app is packed with content and has a very nice interface, despite the uninspired title. The background of the app shows a lawn, adding to the outdoor play theme, and all the designs are simple yet very cute. The application contains outdoor games from all over the world.
Use it to find a game to play, based on the age of the children, the hardware required, the country of origin of the game or the length of the game. Game duration varies from less than five minutes to 15 minutes . I wish you could also search by number of children required as I usually only have my two children with me. There is also an option to shake the iPod for random play, after choosing the age group first.
You can also add your own game, so if you like to play some that are not listed, you can add it to the database. This is really helpful, as many outdoor childhood games I know of are not listed in the database. Most games have a very short description, which makes them quick to learn and teach a group.
Once you choose a game to play, a screen displays the first page of the game’s entry, which is a drawing of what it looks like when kids play the game. The drawing is cute and cartoony, in black basic on white. Flip the page and it gives the name of the game, how many stars you gave it out of five, age range, duration, setup, and materials. The third page gives a description of the game and teaches you how to play. At the bottom of the screen there are options to rate the game out of five stars, mark a game in your My Playground area, and email the game to someone.
This cute little app is definitely worth the purchase price of $0.99. I recommend 225 Kid Outdoor Games to anyone going out with a group of kids in an open space. It is intended for children from 2 to 16 years old and all adults who wish to play with them. It’s a pretty basic app, but it will teach you dozens (or hundreds) of games you don’t know.
Note: I received a copy of this app for review purposes.
