(Olivia MN-) As of last week, winter recreation trails in Beaver Falls and Skalbekken County Parks have been maintained for walking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, fat biking and other non-motorized recreational uses.
“The slopes have been groomed with two sets of parallel ski slopes, allowing two people to classic ski halfway down the slope. The other half was piled up for walking, snowshoeing and other non-motorized uses,” said Renville County Parks Superintendent Jesse Diehn. “With a growing interest in outdoor winter recreation, we thought it would be a great opportunity to offer this activity again in parks,” Diehn continued.
The grooming effort is the result of a collaboration between Renville County HRA/EDA and Renville County Parks Departments. The trail follows the park road in both parks, offering a 1.5 mile trail to Skalbekken and a 2 mile trail to Beaver Falls.
Visitors are encouraged to park at the Skalbekken Equestrian Camp and at the south entrance to Beaver Falls. Maps showing maintained trail routes are posted at all trail entrances and can be printed online. The park’s shelters and toilets remain available to visitors. Admission to county parks and use of groomed trails are free for day use.
