Winter holidays give children the opportunity to enjoy outdoor activities

With children out of school during the winter holidays, many take the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. Brian Bouchard, of NewsSource8, examines how some children get air.

Instead of sitting, playing video games, or watching TV, many families have chosen to enjoy the good weather and engage in outdoor activities, such as skiing, snowtubing or ice skating.

“My daughters only started skiing about 6 years ago. Something to do in Aroostook County during the winter, get out and get around. It was a good way to support the family. My oldest daughter Allison started skiing first, I actually learned to ski at the same time as her, just because I had never learned to ski before. said Joe Fagnant, a parent.

At Big Rock Mountain in Mars Hill, the kids were skiing with their friends. When asked why they enjoy skiing and being outdoors, they replied:

“It’s really fun. I can see friends going to different schools and I can spend time with my family and be outdoors” – Alison Fagnant – 5th grade

“Because you can ski with your friends and have fun” – Deklan Taylor – 3rd grader

“Because you have to hike a whole bunch of trails and sometimes you can be with your friends. “- Maxwell Shaw – 3rd grader

Over the weekend, Presque Isle Recreation and Parks’ Joshua Stahl was at Mantle Lake Park, setting up an outdoor rink. They also organize events featuring hot chocolate and smores.

And even if you’ve never been in the outdoors, it’s never too late to learn a new skill.

“It’s never too late to learn and try to get out there and stay healthy. It’s a great activity to be outdoors and enjoy what Aroostook County has to offer, ”says Joe Fagnant.

Some, like Logan McNeal from Presque Isle, were too busy snowtubing at Quoggy Jo Ski Resort to talk to us, but his mom said if he had a choice he would be out snowtubing all day. .
